Who am I?
Matthew Kohl is a dedicated and well-rounded Audio Engineering student at the Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University Bloomington. Now in his second year, Matt has already established a strong foundation in both the technical and creative aspects of audio production. His studies and field experience have provided him with a broad skill set, which he has applied in various real-world settings, from live sound and studio recording to broadcast engineering and information technology.
Matt’s commitment to a high-quality outcome in projects he takes on is evident in his diverse range of experiences. Whether it’s designing soundscapes for theatrical productions, managing complex audio-visual networks, or engineering live broadcasts, he brings a blend of technical proficiency and creative insight to every project. As he continues to hone his craft, Matt remains focused on expanding his knowledge and expertise, both within and beyond the classroom.
In the theatrical setting, Matt has sound designed original undergraduate works like Lolita Play and Amusement Park Over the Moon. He is currently employed by IU Theatre as a Sound Assistant, where he has mixed shows such as Head Over Heels. Matt’s musical background includes playing cello in productions like Renascence and Mary Poppins, as well as Keyboard 1 in Shrek at the Illinois All-State Festival and High School Musical at Glenbard South High School. Additionally, he has performed on stage as Jake in Love/Sick and Gleb in Anastasia.
In the field of information technology, Matt has extensive experience in enterprise networking technologies as they relate to audio engineering. He is currently employed at IU Radio and Television Services, where he regularly works with Dante networking for multi-camera Big Ten Network sporting events. Over the past few summers, Matt has expanded his expertise by serving as a technology intern for Glenbard School District 87, managing projects such as the implementation of an archival Video-on-Demand service. He is actively pursuing CompTIA Network+ and Security+ certifications.
Matt is also an MSII cadet in IU Army ROTC. He has aspirations of potentially joining the Army Reserves as an officer in the Signal corp while he works downtown for a broadcast network. He is also exploring other possibilities, such as working on the civilian side for government contractors, or going Active Duty.
